Rangers were concentrating on shedding cost rather than generating a huge income from their transfers this summer, Dan Plumley has said.
James Taylor revealed in the latest AGM on 5 December that the sales of five players, including Connor Goldson and Todd Cantwell, only brought in £810,000, something which left the attendees gasping.
It was another summer rebuild at Ibrox under Philippe Clement, with the wage bill even dropping by £6million ahead of this season’s struggles.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Plumley shared why the club may have been forced to accept lower fees for their players over the summer.
“On the big-name players, that ties into the salary drop,” he said.
“Sometimes if you really want to get rid you have to take a hit on the transfer fee and think about the wage saving.

“It’s more about shedding cost than it is about generating huge income.“
John Gilligan was left with a mess to clean up at Ibrox after the exits of James Bisgrove and John Bennett, and the AGM only made that clearer.
Some even suggested that the interim chairman deserved a standing ovation for his work at Ibrox in the temporary role, as he prepares to step aside.
Rangers have struggled in the Scottish Premiership since the transfer work over the summer, currently sitting third behind Aberdeen and Celtic.
