Kieran Maguire has revealed that sources have told him there is a “remote possibility” Dan Friedkin could return to complete his Everton takeover.
The Toffees talks have ended with the prospective new owners and Blues insider Bryan King told Goodison News on 7 July that the deal hit a “stumbling block” due to money owed to 777 Partners.
Although so far there has been no indication Friedkin could make a U-turn on his decision in the future, football finance expert Maguire believes they could resurrect their deal as they did when acquiring Roma.
As quoted by TBR Football (25 July) he said: “As far as Friedkin returning to the table is concerned, my sources indicate that is a remote possibility.
“They have already spent a lot of money doing due diligence to date. I can understand people pointing to what happened at Roma, where they walked away and then came back later.
“But the issues at Roma were negligible compared to the complications at Everton with regards to the legacy created by the spectacular financial mismanagement of Farhad Moshiri.”
Will Dan Friedkin take over Everton after Goodison Park updates?
At this stage, Everton supporters will just be desperate to have anyone other than Farhad Mohsiri at the top of their club given how long this transfer saga has already run on over the last few months.
The Friedkin Group had shown plenty of promise before their deal collapsed, but because of the money owed to 777 Partners, they were never going to be eager to acquire that sort of debt just to get their hands on the club.
However, the Toffees are still an attractive prospect in the footballing world if you’re able to look beyond their debt and that could be enough for Friedkin to return to the table and resurrect his bid as Maguire suggested.
Hopefully, that remote possibility will come to light in the coming weeks and months as the Roma owners seemed as though they would be the perfect fit to help Everton get back to where they belong in the future.
