Gabriel Jesus booked for reaction to bizarre bum grab from Yerson Mosquera
This was very weird.
There was a bizarre moment late in Arsenal’s win over Wolves on Saturday, with Gabriel Jesus booked for his reaction to having his bum grabbed by Yerson Mosquera.
The Gunners won the match 2-0 thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka, getting their season off to a very solid start at the Emirates.
Jesus didn’t start the match but he came on late and in the 88th minute he was on the receiving end of a very odd decision from the Colombia international.
The Brazilian striker was bending over, putting his boot back on when Mosquera reached over from in front of him and grabbed his backside, trying to push him out of the way of a Wolves free-kick.
Understandably the Arsenal man was not happy about it, jumping up and pushing the Wolves defender away.
Mosquera fell to the ground and Jesus was booked as a result, which he could scarcely believe given there was a pretty good reason for him reacting as he did.
Jesus protested to referee Jarred Gillet but to no avail, while Mosquera escaped without punishment.
Other than this very odd incident it was a good day for the Gunners, as they also avoided a scare for key midfielder Declan Rice.
The England international limped out of the game late on, replaced by Jesus on 85 minutes, but Mikel Arteta later confirmed that he was just suffering with cramp.
There will be a tougher test for Arteta’s side next week as they go to Aston Villa on Saturday after the Villains impressively beat West Ham away on their season opener.
