'Gaslighting' - Four Lads slams Rangers player for what he did in last 24 hours

Rangers defender and captain James Tavernier has been slammed by Four Lads Had a Dream’s Stevie Clifford for his recent comments.

The Englishman said on 1 November that he has played well this season and that he’s trying to create as many chances as he possibly can.

He said this in the press conference ahead of the Scottish League Cup semi-final against Motherwell on Sunday, 3 November, at Hampden Carl.

Clifford wrote on X: “‘Gaslighting is a type of emotional abuse that involves manipulating someone into questioning their own reality, sanity, or capabilities’.”

James Tavernier’s comments show where the standards are at Rangers

Tavernier’s comments reflect a troubling complacency at Rangers, where individual performance justification overshadows collective failure.

At a time when the team are languishing nine points behind the league leaders, Tavernier’s defence of his own form, while not acknowledging the broader team dynamics, suggests a disconnect between personal metrics and team success.

This approach not only misses the point of collective responsibility but also indicates a lack of leadership in rallying the squad towards higher standards.

Instead of addressing the systemic issues or expressing a unified front for improvement, Tavernier’s focus on his contributions, despite the team’s poor league standing, points to a deeper cultural problem within Rangers.

Philippe Clement also deserves plenty of criticism for this and so do the decision makers behind the scenes as the club is in a shambolic state on and off the pitch and the fans have grown frustrated with what’s happening.
