Manchester City were soundly beaten by Tottenham and with Liverpool the next Premier League fixture, Kyle Walker has fired a warning to his teammates.
Walker was on the receiving end of a Tottenham performance which saw the City defence ship four goals and look like conceding every time Spurs went forward.
Indeed, Timo Werner made Walker look slow for the fourth as the experienced England man began to show signs of wear and tear.
However, Walker hasn’t won what he has in the game without being determined and coming back from disappointments and with Liverpool up next, he’ll be keen to make amends.
But in a frank assessment, Walker has warned his City teammates.
Kyle Walker sends Man City warning about Liverpool
Speaking to the BBC after the game, Walker admitted that while City will fancy themselves, a repeat of the Tottenham debacle will see Liverpool hammer them.
“It’s a great game to turn it around and take three points from the team who sit above you. But we can’t put in a performance like that or we’ll get walked over,” Walker said.
“We have a Champions League game to prepare for that massive game on Sunday and keep within touching distance of Liverpool.”
Walker and others need to rally the City troops
City and Pep Guardiola can point to injuries and losing a key man like Rodri, but they will have little sympathy from the masses after what they’ve spent in recent years.
Right now, City face a different challenge and that is to pull themselves out of the mire and make sure they don’t lose six in a row.
Going to Liverpool is as hard as it gets but as we’ve seen this year in the Premier League, anything can happen.
City can and have seen off Liverpool plenty of times in the past and right now would be the best time to do it again.
Walker and his experienced teammates, then, need to rally the squad and ensure nothing is left out on the Anfield turf next weekend.
