Sean Dyche has been dealt a plethora of injuries so far this season but could be about to welcome back a few faces to the Everton squad.
While the absence of some of his players cannot be used as an excuse for their position in the Premier League table, it has certainly not helped the Toffees manager.
James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam have been major misses over the last few weeks, with Dyche and his players only picking up one win in their last five matches.
With three clean sheets in that time, though, the defence has once again regained some of its watertight abilities from last term but that can only continue if Dyche can rotate his players to limit injuries.
One player who has been an unlikely standout this season is 39-year-old Ashley Young, who has started 10 of the Toffees’ 12 Premier League matches, notching three assists and regaining the trust of the fans.
However, given his age and recent injury history – missing eight games with a muscle problem last season – it is unlikely that he can continue at such a high level for the entire campaign.
Everton to axe Ashley Young as Seamus Coleman injury update shared
Luckily for Dyche, Nathan Patterson is already back playing with the Under-21s and Seamus Coleman doesn’t sound too far behind him in his comeback from injury.
The 26-year-old has not played for the Toffees since the end of August, sustaining an injury while away on international duty in the September break, but he is closing in on a long-awaited return.
Speaking in his press conference [Official X account], Dyche said: “Coleman is back training but is unlikely to be available.”
With him unlikely to face Manchester United on Sunday 1 December, Young will be buzzing to go back to Old Trafford and, hopefully, come away with a positive result.
However, he may be fearing that Dyche could begin to rotate some of his best performers to keep them from being the next player to have a meeting with the medical team.
In other Everton news, the Toffees will surely fume as the wait over an “important” points deduction decision continues, relegation is on the line.
