‘Hard’: Paul Merson has now predicted who will win – Liverpool or Manchester City

Liverpool face Manchester City this weekend in what is one of the Premier League’s great fixtures.

The Reds and the Cityzens have been the biggest of rivals in English football over the past six or seven years, and this game will, once again, have huge repercussions on the title race.

For the first time in a while, Liverpool head into a game against City as firm favourites.

Indeed, City have failed to win any of their last six matches, and a trip to Anfield is the last thing they need right now.

Liverpol head into this match off the back of a win against Real Madrid, and confidence is high at Anfield right now.

Arne Slot wasn’t happy that Pep Guardiola signed a new City contract last week, and now, the two managers are set to meet in the Premier League for the first time.

Writing in his column for Sportskeeda, Paul Merson has predicted how this one will go.

Paul Merson predicts Liverpool vs Manchester City

Merson shared how he thinks this match will pan out.

After City’s poor form, Merson actually tipped Liverpool as the victors here, claiming that the Reds will win 2-1.

“I’m finding it hard to make a case for City after what happened against Feyenoord. They will score but I can’t see how Liverpool will lose at Anfield. City are so low in confidence at the moment and it does not augur well for them,” Merson wrote.

Liverpool’s record vs Manchester City

Merson reckons that Liverpool will beat City here, but history suggests that won’t be easy.

Not only are City the four-time running champions of England, they’re also a team that Liverpool really struggle against.

Liverpool have won just two of their last 10 games against City in the league.

Of course, this game is being played under wildly different circumstances.

City have never been in this sort of poor form before under Pep Guardiola, while Liverpool are rejuvenated under Arne Slot.

Jamie Redknapp reckons Liverpool are title favourites, and while it may be a tad too early to say that, if the Reds win here, they will be well and truly in the driver’s seat.

This is perhaps the biggest game of the season so far between two sides that have had so many historic battles in recent times.
