Sevilla winger Chidera Ejuke has voiced his support for teammate Kelechi Iheanacho, who has endured a difficult start to life in Spain following his summer move from Leicester City, Soccernet.ng reports.
Both Ejuke and Iheanacho joined Sevilla on free transfers, with Ejuke coming from Antwerp and Iheanacho departing Leicester after a long spell with the Foxes.
While Ejuke has quickly adapted, earning praise for his dribbling skills — ranked the best in Europe’s top five leagues ahead of Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappe, and Vinicius Junior — Iheanacho has struggled to find his feet.
The Nigerian striker has made five appearances for Sevilla, starting three, but is yet to score or assist.
Despite Iheanacho’s slow start, Ejuke remains confident in his teammate’s abilities.
“Kelechi is a great guy. He’s a good player,” Ejuke told Marca.
“That’s why Victor Orta brought him to Sevilla. He’s a striker and he wants to score goals; he wants to help the team.”
Iheanacho, 28, boasts a solid career record with 87 goals and 45 assists in 310 games. His 18 FA Cup goals are the most by any Nigerian player in the competition.
However, questions have been raised about his slow adaptation to Spanish football, especially as Sevilla struggles in the early season.
Sevilla fans are growing impatient, with many hoping Iheanacho will rediscover his scoring touch soon.
“He’s a good person who brings a lot of energy to the team,” Ejuke added, standing by his teammate amid the growing scrutiny.
Iheanacho was in Nigeria’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September.
However, on current form, Ejuke could be set to take the place of the former Manchester City man in the squad for this month’s games against Libya in Uyo and Benina.
