Troy Deeney believes Ruben Amorim is already ‘fed up’ with Marcus Rashford and has described one of his recent performances for Manchester United as ‘disgraceful’.

Rashford scored the first goal of the Amorim era – popping up inside two minutes to give United an early lead against Ipswich Town – and then bagged a brace in the 4-0 win over Everton.

Despite the early promise, Rashford was benched for United’s Premier League clash against Arsenal and was heavily criticised for his 30-minute cameo after coming off the bench.

Rashford remained on the bench for the subsequent match against Nottingham Forest before starting the Europa League game against Viktoria Plzen only to be subbed off with more than half an hour remaining.

This is Rashford’s ninth full season at Old Trafford but he is struggling to produce his top form and reports from earlier this week have said United could sell the academy graduate, who has recently dropped out of England contention.

Ex-Premier League striker Deeney has questioned whether Rashford can revive his Manchester United career and believes Amorim, appointed just last month, is already growing frustrated with the forward.

‘Marcus Rashford looks like he is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders,’ Deeney wrote in a column for The Sun. ‘Everything is always everybody else’s fault and his application stinks.

‘He is still capable of moments. It wouldn’t surprise me if he goes and scores the winner against Manchester City this weekend and then goes missing for the next few weeks.

‘He knows he can live off these “moments” and nothing more, and that isn’t good enough. It is the same old cycle.

‘A new manager comes in and for three of four games you see a “new Rashford” and then he slips back into his old ways and old form.

‘He then begins to get dropped. We saw it on Thursday night, subbed off against Viktoria Plzen and already United boss Ruben Amorim looks fed up with him.

‘Look, I’ve been there. It’s not nice when that is happening.

‘As a striker you want to be left on to build some momentum, but I was at the Emirates when he came on against Arsenal last week. He was a disgrace.

‘Amorim summed it up best when he joined, telling Rashford he will get full support but it is up to him as a player, a person.

‘That’s where the problem lies. Nobody wants Rashford to fail, but if he keeps delivering these substandard performances then we will all keep on saying the same things.’

Deeney cannot see Rashford joining another Premier League club so believes a move abroad would be the best decision for his career.

‘If I was advising him, I’d tell him to go abroad but even then I’m not sure how that would go,’ he added.

Manchester United recovered from an Andre Onana howler to beat Viktoria Plzen 2-1 in midweek and now turn their attentions to Sunday’s derby against struggling Manchester City.

Amorim’s side are just 13th in the Premier League as they prepare to visit the Etihad Stadium, while Man City have slipped to fourth, eight points behind leaders Liverpool.
