Ange Postecoglou is still deserving of “huge credit” for demonstrating the capabilities of his Tottenham Hotspur side, according to Ian Darke.
Darke, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, does however concede that consistency is a major issue both for individual players and Postecoglou’s team as a collective.
Spurs succeeded a 1-1 home draw against 10-man Fulham with a paltry 1-0 loss at Bournemouth on Thursday night [5 December], sparking fury at the boss from much of the away support down in Dorset.
“Huge credit has to go to Ange Postecoglou with what he’s capable of with this Tottenham team,” Darke began.
“Against Manchester City, they were so brave, they had the belief to out-football them and they did so in style. The problem is that belief often cannot be shaken in a certain style, and the questions of Tottenham are about sustaining momentum and getting a run of wins together.
“It’s entirely in-keeping with Postecoglou’s team to look how they did at Man City, but then to look like a mid-table team. Individual player performances, like those of Maddison, like Dragusin and Davies, follow that same pattern.”
Tottenham display constant unpredictability
Tottenham under Postecoglou have become this free-attacking but entirely inconsistent force, with supporters none the wiser as to ‘which Spurs’ will turn up on any given matchday.
Next up for Spurs is the hosting of a rampant second-placed Chelsea side this weekend [8 December], who have settled into a dangerously good shape under Enzo Maresca.
Afterwards comes a potentially very interesting occasion for the Australian, who returns to Glasgow but this time to Ibrox, where he will endure a tough reception as Spurs meet Rangers in the Europa League [12 December].
