Scott McDermott has mooted the sale of Ridvan Yilmaz with Rangers recouping some of their outlay on him in 2025.
The Daily Record journalist has named Aberdeen left-back Jack MacKenzie as the ideal replacement for the Turkey international.
Yilmaz was signed for 4million in 2022 but has struggled with form and fitness since his move to Ibrox.
McDermott wrote: “He’s (Jefte) worth keeping, unlike £4million Turk Ridvan Yilmaz who is his understudy.
“Injuries have curtailed him but he’s been a huge disappointment. His physique and stature were always going to be tested in Scotland. MacKenzie is the opposite. He’s reliable, dependable and available every week.
“If Koppen can somehow offload Yilmaz and recoup some of Rangers’ outlay on him, it would be a result. And by replacing him with MacKenzie, it would signify a tidy bit of business for the club.”
Rangers will struggle to get good value for Ridvan Yilmaz
The valuation of Yilmaz has likely diminished due to his persistent injury issues and inconsistent form since joining Gers.
Valued at £4million upon his arrival in 2022, his market worth has probably depreciated significantly due to limited game time and performance not meeting expectations.
With the Turk often sidelined or playing second fiddle to Jefte and Borna Barisic before him, his transfer value might not exceed £2million, considering the club’s need to balance the books.
Koppen is under pressure to demonstrate his recruitment and negotiation skills.
Successfully negotiating a transfer for Yilmaz, even at a reduced fee, would not only recoup some investment but also underscore Koppen’s ability to manage squad dynamics efficiently, proving his worth at the helm of Rangers’ transfer operations.
This would be a step towards rectifying past recruitment decisions and setting a forward-thinking strategy for the club.
