'I can't believe...' - Chris Jack reacts to situation as 3rd Rangers keeper could also leave

Rangers could see yet another goalkeeper leave as Kieran Wright has been tipped to move on along with Robby McCrorie, by Derek Clark and Chris Jack.

The Rangers Review pair said on the 5 June Morning Briefing that the reserve keeper will likely be looking to follow the number two out of the club in the near future, with Jack suggesting Wright has only a “very, very slim” chance of first-team football.

Like McCrorie, who has rejected a contract extension and is set to be sold, Wright’s Ibrox career has featured multiple loan moves away and he now has a year left on his deal, but unlike his teammate he has never made a first team appearance.

Veteran Jon McLaughlin is a confirmed departure as his contract expires this summer, while Jack (4 June) has also reported star number one Jack Butland could leave himself if the right offer comes in.

Clark said (12m 05s): “He’s another one that hasn’t really had a look in at Rangers, he’s had numerous loans at lower league clubs in Scotland… He has to be looking to move on as well, Chris, surely?”

Jack answered: “You would think so… People say, ‘I can’t believe Robby McCrorie is 26, there’s no way that he’s 26’.

“I can’t believe Kieran Wright is 25. He’s been spoken about and been around for a long, long time. I think his chances of playing first-team football at Rangers are very, very slim”.

Kieran Wright to follow Robby McCrorie and Jon McLaughlin out of Rangers with Jack Butland last to go?

If it is long past due that McCrorie moved on to become a regular starter somewhere off the back of just seven first-team appearances for Rangers in his entire career then it must also be for Wright.

At just a year younger and yet never having seen a minute of senior Light Blues action he seems to need a move even more than his fellow Scot.

The major variable in goal this summer is clearly whether Philippe Clement can keep hold of Butland, and although there is reportedly no market for him in the Premier League yet [Alan Nixon, 28 May] there has been an anticipation of big-money bids for some months now.

Liam Kelly looks set to arrive as the new number two so, as Jack suggests, Wright could see a role for himself as the third-choice in the first-team.

But when Clement saw fit to give every single outing but one across all competitions to Butland last term it would likely take a major injury crisis to open the door that far, although recent history at Ibrox suggests that can never be ruled out.

However, the prospect of the top four players at a single position leaving any club in the same window would be extremely destabilising, let alone one that is in the middle of yet another rebuild, so depending on the timelines of the different keeper’s situations the club will need to be careful not to fall into that trap.

In other Rangers news, a pundit has cited an Old Firm controversy in reaction as a Gers transfer deal collapsed.
