'I said': Claudio Ranieri shares what he went and told Ange Postecoglou right after Tottenham's draw with Roma
????
Claudio Ranieri’s AS Roma managed to secure a draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League.
Spurs went into the game fresh after their incredible victory over Manchester City in the Premier League. They were magnificent at the Etihad and fans expected them to get one over Roma as well.
The Italians have had a torrid start to the campaign and have changed managers twice already. Ranieri is their third boss of the season, and he had a difficult task ahead of the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, the experienced 73-year-old’s side managed to steal a point late in the game, and Ranieri was a happy man.
What Claudio Ranieri told Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham 2-2 AS Roma
Ranieri and Ange Postecoglou are two very experienced campaigners.
The Roma boss has worked at multiple clubs across Europe and has had a great career. The Australian, on the other hand, is at his first huge job at Tottenham.
Despite that, Ranieri has a lot of respect for Postecoglou and his philosophy, and he made sure the Spurs boss knew his feelings about him.
When the full-time whistle was blown after Mats Hummels equalised in second-half stoppage time to give Roma a point, Ranieri gave Postecoglou a hug and the two shared a few words.
After the game, the Italian revealed what he told his Tottenham counterpart.
“My players made a very fantastic performance. I said to Postecoglou that he has a fantastic team. I love his football, always tries to win. It was good because we never gave up and always believed in the draw.,” he told TNT Sports.
Later, speaking to Italian print media, Ranieri said, as per Forza Roma: “I complimented Postecoglu. I love this style of play because that’s how the crowd gets fired up. The fans need to know that we want to do something like this.
“Tottenham had their chances on the counter-attack but that’s normal. We played against a great team but I saw a great Roma that never gave up and the equaliser was the culmination of their efforts.”
One stat highlights Tottenham’s biggest problem after Roma draw
Tottenham should’ve won the game against AS Roma.
Yes, the visitors had multiple goals ruled out for offside and Fraser Forster pulled off a few incredible saves too to save the day.
But, Tottenham had plenty of opportunities to score, but like they have done so many times already this season, they did not convert them.
Against Roma on Thursday night, Tottenham created five big chances and missed four of them. They also accumulated an xG of 3.74 but only scored twice (Sofascore).
Postecoglou is doing a remarkable job at Tottenham, but until his side learns to take their chances, they will struggle to achieve their goals.
