'I think they know....' - BBC pundit shares new Rangers title verdict after Killie thrashing

Cillian Sheridan thinks the Scottish Premiership title race is “already over” despite Rangers beating Kilmarnock 6-0 on Wednesday.

The Gers managed to cut the deficit between themselves and second-placed Aberdeen thanks to their midweek win and are now just four points adrift of the Dons but the gap to leaders Celtic still sits at 11 points.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Podcast (5 December), former Celtic striker Sheridan thinks there is no way back for the Gers despite the rout of Killie.

“I think they [Rangers] know the race is over,” he said. “I don’t think anyone there believes that they can go and win the title.

“It’s not that it’s irrelevant going and winning 6-0 at home. It’s good for them confidence-wise, but in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really mean anything.

“They’ve won 6-0 and we’re still here saying the title’s done.”

Rangers have a lot of ground to make up in the Scottish Premiership

The Gers’ form this season has been under plenty of scrutiny due to where they find themselves in the league and although things have got somewhat better recently with wins against the likes of Nice and Kilmarnock, a lot more still needs to come from the squad.

Philippe Clement’s future is also something that has been under constant scrutiny this season, and while all the blame can’t be placed upon his shoulders, he’s rightly been taking the brunt of it.

The Belgian is the one who tells his team how he wants them to play and the way that he wants them to line up so if things aren’t working, the 50-year-old is the one who needs to make the tough decisions.

To be fair to Clement, he did change around his formation against Derek McIness’ men on Wednesday as he chose to start both Hamza Igamane and Danilo rather than having an extra midfielder.

Evidently, a change-up like this is exactly what the team needed and if they can keep up this level of performance, things could start to turn around.
