Ibrox View: Clement may sanction exit for 'Serial Offender' as Rangers launch new transfer push

The transfer window may only be a few days old, but Philippe Clement and Rangers are wasting no time adding to their squad this summer.

Already the Gers have signed Oscar Cortes, Jefte and Clinton Nsiala as the Belgian looks to put his own stamp on the squad after they let the Premiership slip through their fingers last season.

On top of that, a number of players have already said their goodbyes to Glasgow with the likes of John Lundstram, Borna Barisic and Ryan Jack all departing upon the expiry of their contracts.

Others are expected to leave before the summer is up and one man whose future may now be the subject of discussion in the coming weeks will be Cyriel Dessers who had a mixed first season in Glasgow.

The Nigerian international scored 22 goals in all competitions last season, 16 of which came in the Scottish Premiership and while he was the top goalscorer, he left a lot to be desired in front of goal.

Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson was one person to slam the forward’s finishing ability, labelling him a “serial offender” as he urged Clement to find the funds to sign Lawrence Shankland [Daily Record, 1 January].

Although Dessers’ future hasn’t been the subject of much speculation this summer, Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack admitted he wouldn’t be surprised to see him leave Ibrox before the start of next season [Rangers Review, 3 June].

Will Rangers and Philippe Clement sign Hamza Igamane in summer transfer window at Ibrox?

Clement is also in the market for a new number nine this summer and reports suggest that the Gers have launched a £1.5million transfer push to try and secure the signature of Hamza Igamane [The Scottish Sun, 16 June].

The 21-year-old may not have loads of experience, but Clement believes that he is more than capable of adapting to the demands of the Scottish game to be the sort of prolific forward required to win the title this summer.

If Rangers do win the race for the centre-forward, they may well decide that Dessers is surplus to requirements, especially with Danilo expected to be back to full fitness at the start of the next campaign.

Whether or not anyone will make a reasonable offer to sign the 29-year-old remains to be seen, but it feels much more likely that he would be allowed to depart if Clement had already signed a replacement.

Nothing is set in stone or even close at Ibrox at this moment in time, but Dessers’ future could be one to watch in the coming weeks.

In other Rangers news, Clement could sanction the exit of Todd Cantwell during the summer transfer window at Ibrox
