Ibrox View: Six-figure windfall appears to be on the cards for Rangers but fans may not be happy

Rangers will see a substantial windfall coming into the coffers as the SPFL reached an agreement with Premier Sports on 5 June.

The league confirmed this on their official website with chief executive Neil Doncaster referring to it as “tremendous”.

It is understood to be an eight-figure deal, according to Colin from Heart and Hand, and per his calculations, it could be a fee of £166k per club.

An important influx of funds for Rangers

This influx of funds may be seen as good news as it enhances the club’s financial stability, providing a stronger foundation for operational activities and long-term planning.

The additional funds can be used to invest in player recruitment, training facilities and youth development programs, potentially improving the team’s performance and competitiveness.

It may also bring the league to newer audiences, thus helping grow the Scottish game as a whole.

Rangers fans may not be overly pleased with the news

However, there are undoubtedly pitfalls to this which will not please fans.

For starters, it would mean that supporters will have to sit through the commentary and/or punditry of Michael Stewart.

It is well-established that he is known to be anti-Rangers and this will see him reach a whole new audience.

It will also mean that the fans have to pay for another subscription and it might not be worth it given the quality of the matchday coverage.

Also, Doncaster’s inept leadership has seen him sell the rights to Premier Sports for an amount that’s far below what some other leagues are going for and this will add to the annoyance of not just the Ibrox faithful but Scottish football fans in general.

In other Rangers news, weeks of negotiations are now on the cards at Ibrox with Gers aiming to strike a multi-million transfer deal to sign an international attacker.
