Ibrox View: Sterling error made by Clement as 2 changes made in confirmed Rangers XI v St Johnstone

Philippe Clement has got it wrong not starting Dujon Sterling in two changes to the Rangers starting XI against St Johnstone.

The Gers return to Scottish Premiership action off the back of a superb 4-1 win away to OGC Nice on Thursday (28 November).

Despite this result, Clement opted to bring James Tavernier and Ianis Hagi in from the start at McDiarmid Park on Sunday (1 December) with Sterling and Mohamed Diomande dropping to the bench in the confirmed XI, shared via X.

The Belgian manager has eased some of the pressure that has been hanging over him with a famous win in the Europa League midweek but he is still in need of a positive result against the Saints.

In an effort to help do so, James Tavernier has come back into the side after being a second-half substitute away in France last time out.

This has seen Sterling drop to the bench which may prove to be a mistake after grabbing an assist in a positive performance in Europe.

The Englishman has been involved in some controversy but until UEFA decide on a potential punishment, there is no reason to drop him from the side just yet.

St Johnstone should represent an easier task than the French outfit and as a result, the ex-Chelsea man will be hopeful of a positive performance to repay the faith shown in him by Clement.

It is certainly a bold move from the Gers boss to bring him and Hagi but if they can prove themselves, it could prove to be a positive set of changes.
