Liverpool roared into the international break with a big win over Aston Villa as goals from Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah sealed a huge three points.
Arne Slot’s side went five clear of second and nine clear of third as they continued their fine form.
After all eyes were on Slot in the summer taking over from Jurgen Klopp, the Dutch coach has taken to England like a duck to water.
Indeed, Liverpool fans have taken to Slot as well, despite him not being the all fist-bumping character that Klopp was prior.
However, speaking about just how good Slot is, former Reds striker Michael Owen actually believes that Slot’s lack of ‘Klopp-isms’ make him stand out.
Arne Slot praised by Michael Owen for not copying Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool
Speaking on Premier League Productions about the impact of Slot, Owen admitted that he’s been impressed by the Dutchman.
And crucially, Owen finds that Slot not trying to be Jurgen Klopp is working perfectly.
“He’s impressive isn’t he [Arne Slot]. He looks in control. I like his demeanour. He’s not trying to be Jurgen Klopp,” Owen said.
“He’s cool, he’s calculated, he’s classy, he looks like he’s in control and so does this Liverpool team at the moment. I know it’s early in the season but that little gap they’ve opened up now, they’re getting very excited already.”
Klopp left Slot in a good place
The words from Owen here are bang on and it is nice to see Arne Slot doing so well at Anfield and leading a seamless transition.
However, it cannot be understated how Jurgen Klopp left the new boss with a squad more than capable.
The investment into the midfield the year prior was crucial and now Slot is reaping the benefits of that spending and getting the best from his players.
Up front, everyone knows the problems Salah, Diaz and Nunez can cause, while Slot has managed to get a tune from Cody Gakpo as well.
Right now, Liverpool look very much ready to pick up from Klopp’s stellar work and land that second PL title.
