Hamza Igamane could be watched by the Morocco assistant coach when Rangers face Celtic on Sunday, according to the Daily Record.
The Record reported in its print edition, via reports from Africa (14 December, page 64) that Abdel Houhazama has been “assigned” to keep an eye on Igamane and may be at Hampden Park on 15 December.
Igamane is already a Morocco Under-23s international and has previously been in preliminary squad lists for the Atlas Lions’ senior side, having netted six Gers goals this season including five from his last five.
Morocco manager Walid Regragui now has an eye on selecting Igamane for their next games against Niger and Tanzania and has despatched Houhazama to send “detailed reports” on his progress.
International call-up surely beckons for Hamza Igamane at Rangers
While Morocco are hardly short of solid options in the final third, with the likes of Youssef En-Nesyri, Brahim Diaz and Hakim Ziyech all regular picks up front, Igamane could add a new dimension in attack.
That’s certainly proven to be the case at Ibrox, arriving from FAR Rabat for £1.7million in the summer and biding his time before taking his chance with both hands across the Gers’ last few games.
Igamane has come from the periphery – being given cameos off the bench here and there – to be almost undroppable for Philippe Clement, showing enormous potential both upfront and on the left flank.
That versatility has seen Igamane stake a permanent place in the side as the Bears’ form has improved in recent weeks, with the 22-year-old scoring against Nice, Kilmarnock, Ross County and Tottenham.
His opener against Spurs three days ago sent the Copland Road end into a frenzy, and with national team coaches potentially watching on, don’t count against Igamane doing similar against Celtic at Hampden.
In other Rangers news, Clement has been told not to start one “scarred” player at Hampden due to his history against Celtic.
