Chelsea team news
Speaking a few days ago, Maresca hinted that he may look to rotate his starting XI for the clash against Kieran McKenna’s side
‘I think in December, we already played eight or nine games in 25 or 27 days,’ Maresca said after his side’s loss to Fulham on Boxing Day.
‘If we are going to make one, two or three changes (against Ipswich) we will see. Now it’s a bit early to say we will change something.’
Christopher Nkunku could be handed a rare league start in place of Nicolas Jackson up front, while Joao Felix will hope for some minutes having been an unusued substitute against Fulham last time out.
Elsewhere, Noni Madueke will hope to be back in the squad after he was dropped for ‘technical’ reasons for the clash with Fulham.
Maresca confirmed that Renato Viega was also dropped for a similar reason and the full-back remains unlikely to displace Marc Cucurella given the Spaniard’s recent form.
In midfield, question marks remain over the fitness of Romeo Lavia, who has been recovering from a hamstring injury.
The Belgian not seen since coming off at half-time against Tottenham earlier in December but will hope to prove his fitness to play a part from the bench against Ipswich.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is another carrying a knock and has not been seen in the league since a cameo appearance against Southampton.
Elsewhere, Reece James remains a long-term absentee, while Maresca will also be without Mykhailo Mudryk indefinitely after the winger was provisionally suspended following a failed drugs test.
Predicted Chelsea XI to face Ipswich Town
Sanchez; Disasi, Tosin, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Madueke, Palmer, Felix; Nkunku
