Bryan King has speculated that Tottenham could offer Paul Gascoigne an ambassadorial role in North London.
The ex-Spurs scout claims he has heard stories from former Spurs players who are currently enjoying similar roles.
Gascoigne recently claimed he was charged £400 per ticket for a match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during an interview via SportsCasting (13 October).
However, his manager Katie Davies explained via Standard Sport (16 October), “We should like to clarify that Paul’s comments are not an accurate reflection of his relationship with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, which has provided a huge amount of support to him over the years and always looks after its former players.
“In relation to the tickets, these were intended for associates of Paul and not for himself – Paul has never been charged by the club for a ticket to come to a match.”
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks Spurs would be unwise not to welcome the legendary midfielder with open arms.
“I would have been very surprised if Tottenham had done something like that,” King said.
“I’ve heard stories from ex-players who are being used in hospitality at the club, and they seem to enjoy it very much, they get paid too.
“We’re talking about the likes of Pat Jennings, Clive Allen, and many more.
“Therefore, I could imagine Gascoigne being offered a similar role. I think Tottenham would be foolish not to welcome him because he has been a great player for the football club.
“However, if he wants to go to Tottenham just for a match, there would be enough people who would gladly pay for him to sit with them, I’m pretty sure of that.”
Paul Gascoigne to make a public appearance at Tottenham?
For all of the good Daniel Levy has been doing at Tottenham, he won’t want that hard work undone by this kind of controversy. Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Gascoigne invited to a Spurs match.
While it remains to be seen whether he is offered an ambassadorial role, Levy won’t want this situation dragging out.
As a result, inviting Gascoigne to a match and making that invitation public might be the best way to move on from this unfortunate situation.
In other Tottenham news, Manchester City are in advanced talks to beat the club to a new signing.
