Ange Postecoglou is one of the most driven men in all of football.
The Australian has really worked his way up through the game.
From Australia, to Japan, to Scotland and eventually to the Premier League, Postecoglou has worked his socks off to get where he is today.
However, at the age of 59, there may be some feeling that it’s time for Postecoglou to wind down.
Speaking to Optus Sport, James Maddison has been discussing Postecoglou and his drive within the game, and he says that the gaffer has been very honest about his situation.
Maddison says that Postecoglou has told his Tottenham team that he could easily retire at his age, but he’s so driven by the idea of winning and being successful in the game of football, he’s going to keep pushing harder than ever.
Ange Postecoglou is driven
Maddison shared what Postecoglou told him about the idea of retiring.
“He’s very passionate about his job. He’s said before that he’s at an age where he could easily go and retire and go on a lovely holiday into the sunset. But he cares so much about winning and football and his love for football he’s still doing this and he’s still so hungry to get the best out of us and win more,” Maddison said.
Ange Postecoglou won’t retire anytime soon
At the age of 59, it would be fair if Postecoglou did have the idea of retirement in his mind.
Postecoglou reportedly earns £100k-a-week at Tottenham, so he certainly has the money to call it a day.
However, the Australian won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
As strange as it sounds, Postecoglou is only just getting started.
Yes, this has been a coaching career that has spanned decades, but Postecoglou has only been in the Premier League for 12 months, and he still has so much he wants to achieve.
We’ve seen the likes of Claudio Ranieri, Roy Hodgson and Alex Ferguson manage into their 70s, so don’t be surprised if Postecoglou does the same.
