Jarrod Bowen injury update as West Ham captain set for extended spell on sidelines
A hammer blow.
Jarrod Bowen is set for a spell on the sidelines after the West Ham captain sustained a fractured foot against Liverpool last weekend.
Bowen hobbled off in the 59th minute of West Ham’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at home in the Premier League on Sunday.
And the club have now confirmed that the winger will has sustained a serious foot injury.
‘West Ham United can confirm Jarrod Bowen sustained a fractured foot injury in Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Liverpool,’ a statement read.
‘The injury to his left foot, picked up in the first half at London Stadium, will sideline the Hammers captain heading into the New Year.’
Bowen is West Ham’s top goalscorer in the league so far this season, with five goals and four assists in 19 appearances.
Updating fans on Instagram, the 28-year-old said: ‘Unfortunately in the first-half of our game on Sunday I suffered a fracture to a bone in my foot.
‘As always I tried to fight on and continue playing until I physically couldn’t.
‘Injuries happen in football but I’m already looking forward to getting back out there as soon as possible. See you all soon!’
While West Ham did not confirm a timescale for Bowen’s potential return, the injury to the England international comes at a bad time for the Hammers who sit 13th in the table and just eight points above the bottom three.
The club were unbeaten in their previous four games, but the heavy defeat to the league leaders has piled pressure back on boss Julen Lopetegui.
The Spaniard’s side face a tricky fixture next up in the New Year as they travel to face Manchester City on Saturday, January 4.
West Ham then visit Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup before back-to-back home games against Fulham and Crystal Palace.
