Jeff Stelling has admitted that he is interested as to how Everton fans will have reacted to the latest PSR update out of Leicester City.
The Toffees’ Premier League rivals have appeared to have dodged a potential points deduction after the Premier League (3 September) confirmed that an independent Appeal Board had upheld their appeal against an alleged PSR breach.
This news comes after Sean Dyche’s side were hit with two separate deductions last season for what appear to be similar alleged breaches and talkSPORT host Stelling has shared his immediate reaction.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday (4 September, 8:10) he said: “Leicester City winning their appeal effectively over an alleged breach of profitability and sustainability rules.
“The decision by the appeal board all but ends the prospect of them being given a points deduction this season.
“I wonder how and I’m not saying it is the same situation, but I wonder how fans of Nottingham Forest for example or Leeds United or Everton are going to feel about this.”
Will Leicester City face a point deduction like Everton at Goodison Park?
While this may be too simple a way of looking at this situation, it does feel as though it is one rule for some clubs and one rule for others when it comes to the Premier League’s financial fair play restrictions.
No club has been punished quite as severely as the Toffees were for their original alleged PSR breach and it does feel as though the Premier League were desperate to make an example out of Dyche’s side as their first victim.
Luckily, Everton managed to pick up enough points to dodge the drop into the Championship last term, but it did feel as though the powers at be were doing everything they could to try and make life difficult for the Blues.
Hopefully, those frustrations can at least be put behind the Toffes now and their focus can instead be directed towards matters on the pitch this season.
They’re now going to have to work even harder to dodge the drop now that one of their relegation rivals has dodged a deduction.
