Jim White was left amazed by the fact Rangers managed to beat Nice 4-1 in the Europa League on Thursday despite their poor form in the league.
The Gers moved to eighth in the Europa League table thanks to their victory against the Ligue 1 outfit, putting in a performance that belies their hugely underwhelming domestic form.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (2 December, 09:43am), White and Ally McCoist shared their thoughts on how the game panned out.
“To be fair to Nice, they must have had eight or nine players out but it was the French version of the keystone cops in the second half with their defending,” McCoist said.
“They were unbelievable – I would’ve fancied myself [to score].”
To which White replied: “What amazes me is they can go from that and then go to St Johnstone and, to be honest, forgetful doesn’t even come close.”
McCoist then ended the conversation with: “Oh it was agony.”
Philippe Clement and Rangers got lucky at St Johnstone
If it wasn’t for the own goal that the Saints scored in their Scottish Premiership clash on Sunday (1 December), there’s a high chance that Clement could have found himself without a job to come back to this week.
His role at Ibrox has been under some severe scrutiny, and even the return to winning ways domestically has not convinced the doubters.
Clement’s job has no doubt been saved by his team’s decent displays in the other competitions aside from the Scottish Premiership which, depending on which way you look at it, is both a good and bad thing.
It’s good because the Gers are likely to advance further into the European competition, which means more money will be raking in for them to spend on bolstering their ranks.
However, if Clement stays in charge of the club for much longer, it’s unknown how well the team will be able to handle the rest of the season and whether they’ll step up their race for the title or not which, of course, isn’t ideal for a team of the Gers’ stature.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton reacted to a question that Kris Boyd asked him at half-time of the Gers’ clash against St Johnstone on Sunday.
