Julen Lopetegui is expected to retain his position as West Ham manager even if Everton win 5-0 on Saturday afternoon, claims Jim White.
The Hammers play host to the Toffees at the London Stadium on 9 November and the Spaniard has not had a good start to life at his new club.
Ahead of the game, the hosts find themselves in 14th place with 11 points to their name – two places and two points better off than their opponents this weekend.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (7 November, 10:55) White said: “This morning a source close to West Ham owner David Sullivan tells me, ‘We hope and expect to do well against Everton. If we were to lose 5-0 against them, he would still be the manager on Monday morning. We are people who honour contracts’
“The spokesman said to me, ‘We expect the manager to come good and we have to give him time’, so you can forget about The Guardian.”
Sean Dyche may also be in trouble at Everton if results don’t improve
Despite West Ham’s slightly better standing in the league table, Sean Dyche’s position at Goodison Park appears more secure than Lopetegui’s.
This could primarily be due to the Toffees’ recent history of managerial stability and the club’s current transitional phase.
The Merseyside outfit have shown a willingness to give Dyche time to right the wrongs as he’s managed to get them out of the clutches of relegation when the odds were stacked against the team.
However, the situation could quickly change if Everton suffer multiple consecutive defeats.
Losing several games in a row would not only amplify fan dissatisfaction but could also place the club in the relegation zone, a precarious position from which the new owners might feel compelled to act decisively.
A drop into the relegation zone might expedite the decision to replace Dyche, as the new ownership would want to avoid starting their tenure with the club in a relegation battle, potentially viewing a managerial change as necessary to turn around the team’s fortunes.
In other Everton news, a claim has emerged on Donald Trump and Elon Musk in the backdrop of the impending takeover.
