John Wenham reacts as Tottenham make contact to sign striker after 'purple patch' of form

John Wenham does not want Tottenham to sign Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose doesn’t believe the Brazillian has done enough to prove he is a reliable long-term option in North London.

As reported by Goal Brazil journalist Thiago Fernandes via X (3 June), Tottenham and Chelsea have made contact over a move for Muniz.

But Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is not convinced by the 23-year-old.

“I don’t want Tottenham to sign Muniz,” Wenham said.

“He has only had half a good season, and it might just be a purple patch.

“It wasn’t that long ago that he couldn’t get a game or score a goal for Fulham.

“They were playing Raúl Jiménez instead of him even though he was out of form. Therefore, I would pass on Muniz.”

Muniz enjoyed a positive 2023/24 campaign at Craven Cottage and has attracted interest as a result.

The forward scored nine goals and provided one assist in 26 Premier League appearances. However, this form is perhaps not enough to justify a move to Tottenham.

While Muniz is still just 23 years old and has plenty of room to grow and improve, there will be more high-profile number nines available this summer.

Ange Postecoglou will be keen to kick on, and Spurs would therefore be better off trying to sign a more established goalscorer.

Muniz could fail to build on his form last season, and it would then be back to square one again for Spurs this time next year.
