Everton are set to “assess the situation” of Dominic Calvert-Lewin ahead of the January transfer window including a potential sale, according to Graeme Bailey.
The future of the Toffees striker has been a hot topic since the summer window as his contract expires in June, while Juventus have reportedly shown an interest in acquiring his services of late [Corriere dello Sport, 13 October].
Speaking to Everton News (16 October), journalist Bailey shared that Everton will weigh things up should the 27-year-old reject another new contract offer.
“Interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin is growing, given he can sign a pre-contract in January. Everton are working very hard to persuade him to sign a new deal,” he said.
“If a new deal is rejected again, they will assess the situation including a possible sale in January – but as said they hope to avoid that”.
Everton should cut their losses and sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Toffees fans will no doubt have mixed opinions regarding what to do with Calvert-Lewin.
While the Merseyside outfit have already entered contract renewal negotiations with him [TEAMtalk, 13 October], it feels like January could be the best time to call it quits.
The striker’s goalscoring return leaves a lot to be desired but there is no doubt that when he plays Everton are just a much better team and losing him midway through a campaign would not be ideal.
However, if they aren’t able to secure a new deal for him then if there is a chance to get some sort of fee before the end of his contract then maybe it would be wise to accept. It really is a dilemma.
As mentioned, Juventus have been one of the most recent teams linked with a move for the Englishman.
The Serie A outfit can, of course, agree a pre-contract with Calvert-Lewin in January because they are in a different nation, and if that happens then there is little Everton can do.
It’s still early in the season of course and nothing is set in stone but rather than keeping him at Goodison Park and hoping he performs well, Everton could be better off selling him for whatever they can get in January, especially with the impending integration of Armando Broja.
In other Everton news, a supercomputer has predicted whether Everton will be relegated this season.
