Keith Jackson says Rangers fans running out of patience with Clement as Beale comparison made

Keith Jackson believes Rangers fans are running out of patience with Philippe Clement after his start to the 2024/25 season.

The Belgian has been in the job for almost a year now and with the spotlight well and truly on the boss with the Gers underwhelming this term.

Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (7 October), Jackson shared his verdict on how Rangers fans are likely feeling and compared him to predecessor Michael Beale.

“They’re [fans] running out of patience,” Jackson said. “It’s a year now, you’ve got a year to judge him on.

“At first he came in and kind of went back to basics and sorted out Michael Beales’ team.

“You could actually make an argument that Michael Beale had more of a defined style of play than Clement has.

“Granted, it wasn’t a very good one but at least you could see what he was trying to do”.

Rangers and Philippe Clement need to turn things around

To put it bluntly, Rangers’ season so far has been poor. They find themselves third in the Scottish Premiership, five points behind Celtic and Aberdeen, who have had a perfect start to the campaign.

As with every season, the Gers at a bare minimum are expected to be challenging for the title against their arch-rivals.

However, after their 3-0 loss to the Bhoys in September, they are finding themselves scratching and clawing to make sure they don’t lose further ground..

Although five points might not seem like that much of a deficit, the reality is they have to remain pretty much flawless to keep in touch.

Another thing to take into account is the thoughts of the fans. Although John Gilligan may have backed Clement publically on Sky Sports (24 September), fans aren’t likely to be behind the manager for much longer if they stay in third and don’t start to show consistent signs of improvement.

It’s still early in the season of course but if things don’t turn around soon, Clement’s situation could get a little stickier than he’d like it to.
