Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he is “bullish” about the club’s takeover closing before the end of next week (22 December).
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs –
One of the reasons holding up the takeover is the ongoing court case in New York involving Leadenhall, A-Cap and the £200million debt owed to 777 Partners.
A-Cap has assumed 777’s share in Everton but has been prevented from selling it following Leadenhall’s legal challenge, with court approval needed before the debt can be settled.
The Friedkin Group (TFG) reached an agreement to purchase owner Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake in the club in September.
TFG must also get approval from the Premier League, Football Association and Financial Conduct Authority before finalising the deal.
Friedkin to press ahead at Everton despite Leadenhall case, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The only thing that impacts the Everton takeover is the 777 situation, and I think that will be resolved.
“I still feel that even if it’s not cleared up in time, Friedkin will go ahead and then clear it up after a takeover.
“I’m feeling even more bullish that things will happen by the end of next week.
“I’m hopeful it’s done by then, which would put them in place before January – which is important for the new executive team.
“They’ve been convening already and have some thoughts on their first steps.
“They have some big, big decisions to make in the short-term.”
