Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho may miss Sevilla’s La Liga opener against Las Palmas on Friday due to the club’s inability to register him, Soccernet.ng reports.
Iheanacho joined Sevilla this summer after ending his seven-year stay with English Premier League club Leicester City. The Super Eagles star joined for free, but there will be high expectations of him because of his previous experience with Manchester City and Leicester City.
Iheanacho made his unofficial debut for Los Nervionenses last weekend in their 4-1 bashing against Liverpool. Despite Sevilla’s loss, he showed a few glimpses of brilliance, but he may have to wait a while before making his competitive debut for the club.
According to Elgoldigital, Sevilla have not registered Iheanacho for the upcoming La Liga season. This is because the club have not fulfilled La Liga’s financial requirements for players’ registration.
As it stands, they only have space to register one player, but they have two unregistered players-Iheanacho and Lucien Agoume. They would have to pick one of the two, and it would likely be the latter, as they are short-staffed in the midfield.
To register both players, Sevilla would have to sell a player to meet up with the financial requirements of La Liga. However, this does not seem feasible as they have just two days until their first game of the season.
Nonetheless, Sevilla will find their way around it and register all their players before the window closes at the end of the month.
