King reacts to 'Ridiculous' Everton transfer update as asking price drops

Bryan King claims Newcastle United are asking for a “ridiculous” amount of money for Everton target Yankuba Minteh.

The ex-Goodison scout thinks the Toffees would be wise to avoid a deal for the 20-year-old.

As reported by the Chronicle Live (26 June), Lyon have made an offer for Minteh, although the player is not keen on a move to France with the £40million sale hanging in the balance.

And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – doesn’t understand why the player is valued so highly.

“It seems like a lot of money for an unproven player,” King said.

“I think Everton would perhaps be best to avoid paying those prices. However, if Minteh is under contract, would he agree to a move to France?

“Newcastle are asking for a ridiculous amount of money for a 20-year-old.”

If the Magpies want a fee in the region of £40million then Everton shouldn’t even be entertaining a deal.

While Minteh might be a promising talent with potential he could fulfil at Goodison Park, the Toffees are in no position to be spending that kind of money on a 20-year-old.

However, as reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (28 June), Minteh is keen on joining the club and Newcastle are trying to sell him before Sunday 30 June due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Therefore, if a cut-price deal could be agreed, then it might be worthwhile for Everton.
