'Last straw' - Mark Guidi predicts what will finally force Rangers to sack Philippe Clement

Mark Guidi believes that Rangers losing to Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final will be the “last straw” for Philippe Clement.

The Belgian is feeling the pressure at Ibrox as the Gers continue to slip further behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership table, having recently lost to the Dons.

However, the Light Blues must face their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish League Cup final at Hampden Park on Sunday 15 December, and some believe this could be his last game in charge.

Speaking live via the Go Radio Football Show [22 November], Guidi said: “Clement has a lot to learn. Some of the things he has said have not impressed me at all, but he needs to show that he can do it.

“Over 90 minutes, Rangers can win at Hampden. I think Celtic are much better but in a 90-minute game, they need to go and show their supporters they can do it.

“That will be the last straw for the Rangers supporters if they don’t beat Celtic on December 15. And it could be the last straw for the hierarchy in terms of how they view Clement as manager.”

Rangers to sack Philippe Clement with another loss to Celtic?

Losing yet another game to their bitter rivals would only be more embarrassment for the current man in charge, given the disappointing circumstances at Ibrox.

The Gers already set the tone for the campaign after dropping out of Champions League qualifiers, and that has only continued as they drop further and further down the league table.

Clement is under real pressure to turn things around at Ibrox but there has been little sign that this can happen, maybe other than the 1-1 Europa League draw with Olympiacos recently.

One way that he can prove his credentials to the Ibrox faithful is to finally beat Brendan Rodgers’ men, a feat which he has not achieved since arriving in Scotland.

Of course, with six matches in between now and the Celtic clash at Hampden Park, including Europa League fixtures against Nice and Tottenham, a decision may have already been made at Ibrox.
