Levy in Abdukodir Khusanov masterstroke as £25m Tottenham transfer news emerges

Tottenham are considering a move for RC Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov in the January transfer window, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper reported via their website on 02 December that Spurs are weighing up whether or not to sign a centre-back in January after injuries to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, with the 20-year-old firmly on their radar.

Ange Postecoglou’s side, though, face competition from Newcastle for the Uzbekistan international, who could cost £25million.

On paper, Tottenham are stacked in central defence, with Van de Ven, Romero, Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies all in their ranks.

However, injuries to Postecoglou’s first-choice centre-backs Van de Ven and Romero have left the North London giants short of options there, although Dragusin and Davies helped them beat Manchester City 4-0 on 23 November.

Davies, 31, is in the final year of his contract and while Spurs are expected to trigger a one-year extension [The Athletic], he cannot be trusted to stand in for Van de Ven and Romero for an extended run of games.

Dragusin, meanwhile, is continuing to be linked with a return to Italy, with Juventus keen on taking the Romania international on loan [La Gazzetta dello Sport].

Therefore, a move for Khusanov, 20, makes sense for more than one reason and the Lens star could prove to be a masterstroke from Daniel Levy.

The London-based club signed Dragusin from Genoa for £25m in January this season [BBC] and there is no reason why they could not sell him for a higher fee next year.

Levy could, thus, replace the 22-year-old with a younger centre-back while simultaneously balancing the books, if not adding some money to the coffers.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs are also eyeing a transfer for this Bundesliga star who is also wanted by Arsenal.
