LFC TV pundit suggests Liverpool have sold a 'top young talent' as new club celebrate his 'huge potential'

Liverpool have cashed in in two young players ahead of this weekend’s game against Brentford as Arne Slot continues to shape his Anfield squad.

The Reds opened the new Premier League season with a 2-0 win at Ipswich Town, helping Arne Slot get off to the perfect start.

Yet with just over a week to go until the transfer deadline, Liverpool fans are a little bemused.

Liverpool have failed to make a single signing this summer and Martin Zubimendi reject a move to Anfield in favour of staying at Real Sociedad.

Slot may hope for signings before the transfer deadline next week but the focus currently appears to be on moving players out of the club.

Neil Mellor on Bobby Clark transfer

Liverpool have sold defender Sepp van den Berg to Brentford after weeks of speculation.

Bayer Leverkusen wanted Van den Berg too but the Dutchman has now finalised his move to West London.

That sale came on Thursday evening, hours after Liverpool confirmed the departure of Bobby Clark.

The attacking midfielder broke into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team picture and made nine senior appearances last term.

Clark has now been sold to Red Bull Salzburg though with Liverpool raking in around £10million for his services.

The 19-year-old reunites with former Liverpool coach Pep Lijnders in Austria after he became Red Bull Salzburg boss.

Liverpool have added sell-on and matching rights clauses into the deal, meaning the Reds will still have some level of involvement in Clark’s future.

LFC TV pundit Neil Mellor has now shared his reaction having seen Clark leave Anfield.

Mellor posted on social media that he thinks Clark is a ‘top young talent’ and wished him all the best with his big move.

Mellor – who came up in the Liverpool ranks before leaving for Preston North End in 2006 – added that he will be keeping tabs on Clark following his transfer.

The former striker will have seen plenty of Clark in the academy ranks during his LFC TV duties and will follow his progress even away from Anfield.

Clark reaction from inside Red Bull Salzburg

Clark’s exit may be a little disappointing for some fans given the potential he showed after arriving from Newcastle United in 2021.

The teenager now has a chance to shine with a club who have become a gold standard for developing young players.

Red Bull Salzburg sporting director Bernhard Seonbuchner has now commented on Clark on the club’s official website.

Seonbuchner hailed Clark as a ‘highly talented’ player who can become a star in the future – especially thanks to his familiarity with Lijnders.

“Bobby Clark is a highly talented player with huge potential, who will improve further with us due to his ability. He has developed mostly at Liverpool, has played in the first team there and knows our coach well, as a result. That is definitely a reason we have managed to sign Bobby for FC Red Bull Salzburg.

Van den Berg and Clark both have huge potential but are now leaving Liverpool permanently to chase first-team action.

The cash will certainly help Liverpool’s bank balance, but whether Slot will be able to reinvest in a first-team addition remains to be seen.
