Lilywhite Rose moots 'serious trouble' at Tottenham as injury fear emerges

John Wenham believes Tottenham would be in “serious trouble” if goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were to get injured.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose was not impressed by Fraser Forster’s performance in the 2-1 win at Coventry City (18 September).

Forster started and played the full 90 minutes as Spurs advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

However, he struggled, with calls for the 36-year-old to be replaced at the club after his display.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – agrees that Ange Postecoglou’s side would be in trouble if Forster were required to start week in, week out.

“Forster struggled against Coventry City,” Wenham said.

“I know it was his first game in a year. However, it made me think to myself that we would be in serious trouble if Vicario were to get injured.

“What other top club is preparing that way? Where you know that you’re going to be targeted if your number one goalkeeper is out?”

Vicario himself hasn’t been in the best form as of late. The Italian struggled in Spurs’ 2-1 win over Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (21 September).

However, he remains Postecoglou’s number one, and the difference in quality between him and Forster is quite clear.

Spurs cannot afford a long spell without Vicario between the sticks. As a result, it is incredibly important that they keep hold of the 27-year-old, especially considering the recent transfer speculation surrounding him.
