Boxpark Liverpool has apologised to Everton fans after causing controversy with their Merseyside Derby event in April.
Not long after opening in the Baltic Triangle, Boxpark angered Evertonians by broadcasting Everton’s 2-0 win over Liverpool in an event that was heavily biased towards the losing side.
Four months later, Boxpark’s COO Ben McLaughlin penned an open letter to Blues fans, saying that the mistake would not happen again.
“When we opened Boxpark, back in April, our goal was to create a Boxpark for Liverpool, without bias,” the statement said. “Our venues are built on our communities, and our decision to create an event aimed at one fan base for the derby game on the 24th of April is something we regret. In short, we got it wrong, and we apologise.
“Over the past few months, we’ve taken steps to ensure we head into the new Premier League season with a clearer view on how to be better.
“We’ve spoken with the club directly on the matter and had regular communication with senior members of official supporters clubs and fans. Our decision to delay any formal apology was to allow us to take the time to have positive, honest and constructive conversations to ensure we do everything to put things right. As fans, you are our priority.
“We’re working hard behind the scenes to ensure this isn’t an empty apology. Over the coming months, we’ll be able to share more about how we’re setting out to make things right and create an environment that is for all fans and the whole community.
“We are proud to be part of the city, and hopefully, in the future, we’ll be able to welcome you to Boxpark to experience everything we have to offer.”
Boxpark Liverpool leave it months to apologise to Everton fans
At the end of the days, it was the blue half of Merseyside that had the last laugh as video clips of Evertonians celebrating the win in the red-lit Boxpark was something to really savour.
Roll on four months, they’ve decided to say sorry.
We cannot for the life of us figure out why they have decided to say sorry now unless they have just had some market research results back saying how Evertonians are steering clear of the place.
Even still, an apology should have been made there and then to get Blues fans back on side and into their establishment.
It really is poor business management, imagine opening a venue in Manchester and theming everything red and gearing it towards United – it just wouldn’t happen.
In other Everton news, the board has sanctioned a £25.7million bid to seal a brand-new signing before the Premier League season starts.
