The English transfer window may have just shut, but clubs like Liverpool are likely to already be drawing up plans for next year.
The Reds have shown great forward planning in signing Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer, with a view to him becoming Alisson’s successor in the coming years.
Now, it has been reported that Liverpool are now eyeing a Premier League forward who Stan Collymore previously said was his “favourite player” in the English top flight.
Liverpool considering Bryan Mbeumo move alongside Arsenal and Newcastle
The player in question is Bryan Mbeumo, who has been a revelation for Brentford over the past few years.
According to GiveMeSport, Liverpool have set their sights on the 25-year-old, who is also on the radar of Arsenal and Newcastle.
The Cameroon international has hit the ground running for the Bees this season, registering three goals in their opening three league games.
Last term, Mbeumo bagged nine goals and six assists from just 25 Premier League outings, while 2022/23 saw him get nine goals and eight assists from 38 top-flight appearances.
His record over the past 24 months has seen elite clubs like Liverpool sit up and take notice of the former Troyes man, who Brentford have reportedly valued at £50million.
Stan Collymore called for Liverpool to sign Mbeumo last year
Collymore knows what it takes to play up front for Liverpool, and he feels Mbeumo would be a great shout for the Anfield outfit.
Last year, Collymore told CaughtOffside that Mbeumo was his “favourite player in the Premier League” and made a solid case why he’d thrive at Liverpool.
“Interestingly, it’s actually one of Toney’s Brentford teammates that I think top sides should be taking a closer look at,” he said. “Bryan Mbeumo – I love him!
“It may surprise some of you but Mbeumo is my favourite player in the Premier League. I think he’s quality.
“Whenever I watch him, he gets the ball close to his feet, he’s very direct, he makes excellent runs in the channels, he can drop deep, he holds the ball up really well, he is very supportive of his striking partner, he gets in the box and poaches goals, he’s physically strong.
“I could go on and on. He’s a great player! If Salah does end up leaving Liverpool this summer then I certainly think Jurgen Klopp should consider Brentford’s number 19.”

Do Liverpool need Mbeumo?
Admittedly, Liverpool are well stocked on the flanks. Cody Gakpo, Harvey Elliott, Mohamed Salah, Federico Chiesa, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz can all operate out wide.
However, Salah’s future remains uncertain amid interest from the Saudi Pro League and the fact his contract expires next summer.
With that in mind, Mbeumo could be potentially considered as a replacement for the Reds talisman.
However, he is also a versatile player who can feature up front or as a second striker, so he’d give Arne Slot several options across the front line or just behind.
At just 25 years of age, Mbeumo is heading into his prime too, so Liverpool would likely get a player at his peak if they sign him next year.
