Liverpool are set to do their first piece of business in the summer transfer window with just four days to go. Fans at Anfield will not see their new man in action until at least a year down the line though.
Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will remain on loan at Los Che for a year, in a deal that could set them back as much as €35m. The initial fee will be €30m, with €5m in add-ons, and Relevo say that Valencia will also retain 10% of any future sale. Mamardashvili will sign a six-year deal after lengthy negotiations.
Mamardashvili had initially been set to go on loan to Bournemouth this season, and he had accepted as much, but asked whether he might be able to remain at Mestalla for the coming season instead. That will see Mamardashvili earn less money than at Bournemouth, but he was content to remain on the East Coast of Spain.
Los Che had rejected offers of €30m plus €5m, and €35m plus €5m, after which there were three days of silence in talks. Valencia owner Peter Lim relented though, after seeing that Liverpool would not pay the desired €40m outright.
The 23-year-old will commit many of his best years to Liverpool, and if he can continue improving, he will look like good value for money. At some point he will have to battle Alisson Becker for the number one spot, unless the Brazilian decides to leave.
