Ange Postecoglou can breathe a sigh of relief as ten men Tottenham secured a 3-0 win against Qarabag in the Europa League.

Spurs got off to the worst possible start as Radu Dragusin was shown a red card after seven minutes. He brought down Juninho as the last man back and gave the referee an easy decision to make.

Brennan Johnson calmed the nerves down in North London by opening the scoring five minutes later before Pape Matar Sarr and Dominic Solanke secured the win in the second half.

Tottenham player ratings v Qarabag

Guglielmo Vicario – 8

Vicario was busier than he’d have anticipated heading into the match and thwarted the Qarabag attack preventing 0.56 goals with his five saves. The Italian never looked like conceding on the night and won 100 per cent of his aerial duels to match.

Archie Gray – 6

Gray looked solid on his European debut with two key passes from his 74 per cent completed and made two tackles and two clearances in a solid performance.

Radu Dragusin [sent off 7′] – 2

The Romanian lasted only seven minutes before he was sent off for denying Juninho a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Dragusin lost possession and committed the foul, leaving Spurs with it all to go against Qarabag.

Micky van de Ven – 7

Van de Ven was solid as always, winning 100 per cent of his aerial duels, completing 98 per cent of his passes, and making two interceptions to establish dominance in the backline despite the one-man disadvantage.

Ben Davies – 7

The Welsh international performed well as a makeshift centre-back, winning 57 per cent of his duels, making seven clearances, one interception and one tackle while completing 91 per cent of his passes. The Spurs defence performed well as a unit under the circumstances.

Yves Bissouma [off for Rodrigo Bentancur 71′] – 5

After a first-half performance wherein Bissouma lost possession nine times, the midfielder was not much better following the restart with four more possession losses. He can consider himself lucky as Toral Bayramov hit the crossbar from the penalty Bissouma conceded. The 28-year-old only won 50 per cent of his duels, was dribbled past once, and made one tackle.

Pape Matar Sarr – 7

The 22-year-old rounded off his performance with a vital goal with his one shot on target in the second half that secured the win for Spurs. Sarr struggled defensively losing possession nine times and winning only 50 per cent of his duels but was excellent going forward. He completed 92 per cent of his passes and 100 per cent of his long balls and ensured his side secured all three points in North London.

Lucas Bergvall [off for Destiny Udogie 12′] – 5

Bergvall saw his outing cut short in a night to forget as Postecoglou made a defensive change after Dragusin’s red card. The Swede completed 100 per cent of his passes while on the pitch and should feel hard done by with the early substitution.

Brennan Johnson [off for Dejan Kulusevski HT] – 7

Johnson scored his goal with his one shot on target in the first half to ensure Spurs took a one-goal lead into the break. The Welsh international was quiet from the goal onwards completing only 33 per cent of his dribbles, 79 per cent of his passes, and lost 84 per cent of his duels against Qarabag.

Dominic Solanke [off for Mikey Moore 85′] – 8

Solanke proved to be the difference maker against Qarabag and has truly announced himself in North London with a dominating performance. The forward assisted Johnson with one key pass, scored the third goal from his two shots on target, and produced an efficient performance making things happen when he did receive the ball with 86 per cent pass accuracy.

Son Heung-min [off for Timo Werner 71′] – 5

It was a performance far below the usual standard for the Spurs captain as he struggled to make an impact against Qarabag. Son managed only one shot on target and failed his one attempted dribble. Tottenham fans will hope this outing doesn’t carry over to the Premier League as he lost possession six times and managed one key pass.

Substitutions:

Destiny Udogie – 7

Udogie was excellent when he entered the pitch and provided his usual attacking threat with two key passes from his 97 per cent completed and 100 per cent long-ball accuracy. He won 60 per cent of his duels and made three tackles with one interception in a well-balanced performance from the young full-back.

Dejan Kulusevski – 6

The Swede struggled to add an extra dimension to the attack in the second half with only two key passes, completing 50 per cent of his dribbles and losing an astonishing 87.5 per cent of his duels.

Timo Werner – 5

Werner had little time to make an impact but did nothing of note losing possession twice with only eight touches in an abysmal cameo wherein he would have been better served staying on the bench.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 5

The Argentine completed only four passes with 100 per cent accuracy but lost possession once, gave away one foul, lost 66 per cent of his duels and made only one tackle.

Mikey Moore – N/A

In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou should have axed Yves Bissouma at half-time in Tottenham v Qarabag.
