Scott Burns believes that Philippe Clement will be “very lucky” to make it to the January transfer window as Rangers boss after the dour draw with Dundee United.

The Belgian has been under severe pressure amid a poor campaign at Ibrox and the 1-1 stalemate at Ibrox last Saturday (23 November) did not help his cause.

Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (25 November), journalist Burns shared his thoughts on where the future of Clement lies after that draw suggesting he could be sacked before the New Year.

“I think he’ll be very lucky [to get to the January transfer window],” he said.

“Even the other night Philippe Clement himself said after the Dundee United game that he was out of credit.

“I think he’s probably in the red now. It’s not just Celtic, there’s Aberdeen who are eight points ahead of them and as it stands, you wouldn’t bet on them, I don’t think they’ll catch Aberdeen unless there’s a real change in the team or manager.”

Philippe Clement doesn’t have long left to seal his Rangers future

Since the start of the season, questions have been asked about whether Clement has what it takes to regularly compete for the Scottish Premiership title against Celtic.

If this season has shown fans anything, it’s that their team are still quite a way off from being involved in the title discussions.

The Gers brought a fair few new faces through the Ibrox doors over the summer but at the moment, only one or two of them have made all that much of an impact.

In fact, some even believe that the Gers have downgraded their ranks by bringing in Robin Propper for Connor Goldson due to the Dutchman’s poor performances this term.

If the Belgian wants to keep his job at Rangers, things are going to have to turn around as soon as possible otherwise the Gers will surely have no option but to pull the trigger on his sacking..

Only time will tell what John Gilligan decides to do but, on paper, it feels like it makes the most sense to relieve him of his duties.
