Man City have confirmed star midfielder Rodri suffered ligament damage in his right knee during their 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Sunday (September 22).
The 28-year-old hobbled off the pitch on the 21-minute mark following a clash with Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.
The injury came just days after the central midfielder stated in Man City’s pre-match press conference ahead of their Champions League tie against Inter Milan that players are ‘close’ to taking strike action over the hectic schedule, adding players ‘have to take care of ourselves.’
The exact prognosis remains unclear but Rodri has travelled to Spain to undergo specialist treatment and learn the full extent of the injury.

Rodri set for lengthy spell on Man City sidelines
The Spain international has been a linchpin for the Premier League champions since joining from Atletico Madrid back in 2019.
A deep-lying playmaker with a penchant for popping up with important goals, his fine form made him a favourite for the 2024 Ballon d’Or – unfortunately, that now seems unlikely.
Man City’s statement, posted on all of their social media platforms, says, “Manchester City FC can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee.
“The injury was sustained during the first half of this weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.
“The midfielder travelled to Spain to seek specialist consultation this week, following initial tests in Manchester.
“Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis.
“Everyone at the Club wishes him a speedy recovery and mancity.com will bring you regular updates regarding his rehabilitation.”
