Man City respond on losing Rodri as 'double-your-money' offer revealed

Man City are confident of keeping midfield superstar Rodri at the club with a bumper new contract offer, sources have told Football Insider.

Recent reports have suggested the 28-year-old is set to be offered a “double-your-money” payrise at the Etihad Stadium.

The Mirror (17 August) claim a contract with a basic wage of £375,000-a-week is set to be presented to Rodri.

That wage would bring the Euro 2024 winner in line with other top earners Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Sources say City are confident Rodri will choose to put pen to paper on the lucrative offer despite uncertainty over the future of Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola, who has won six Premier League titles in his eight years at the Etihad Stadium, is currently out of contract at the end of this season.

The legendary boss has opened the door to potentially walking away from City next year amid links with the England role.

Rodri has proved one of his most successful signings since arriving in Manchester five years ago, and signed his most recent extension in 2022 – keeping him at the club until June 2027.

The midfielder is now entering his prime years and City are moving to tie him down as they potentially plan for life without Guardiola.

He is yet to play in the 2024-25 campaign after his exploits at the European Championship with Spain.

City won the Community Shield in his absence earlier this month and ran out 2-0 winners in their first Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday (18 August).
