Man City have been told to make sure they extend Kevin De Bruyne’s contract immediately after his standout performance against Nottingham Forest in a 3-0 victory.

There’s been plenty of speculation regarding the Belgian’s future. His contract is set to expire next summer, and in January, teams can negotiate for a free transfer.

Before the win tonight (4 December), there was some talk from Gary Neville of “something going on” in the Man City dressing room but Pep Guardiola dismissed this [BBC Sport].

This reaction primarily stemmed from only playing 13 minutes against Liverpool on Sunday (1 December). However, the Premier League great responded by both scoring and assisting after starting tonight’s match against Forest.

Fans have since expressed their support in an uproar, urging the Cityzens to extend his contract before January arrives.

Guardiola’s men finally secured a victory after a seven-game winless run that has dropped them nine points off Liverpool and De Bruyne’s return to the starting XI was a big reason why.

He made an immediate impact, providing a headed assist to Bernardo Silva within eight minutes. However, the midfielder almost gifted a goal with a “terrible pass” that was intercepted, putting Chris Wood through on goal. De Bruyne quickly redeemed himself, scoring a stunning shot into the roof of the net for City’s second.
