Man City v Premier League: Stefan Borson shares key update after analysing paperwork

Man City could learn the final verdict from their legal battle with the Premier League within a month.

That is the view of former City financial advisor Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the case will not drag on as there will be no opportunity to appeal the outcome.

City are set to face the Premier League in a two-week arbitration hearing starting on Monday (10 June) after challenging their commercial rules.

Top-flight clubs voted in February to toughen up the associated party transaction rules which are designed to ensure all sponsorship agreements are of fair market value.

City have described the rules as “unlawful” and are seeking for them to be scrapped.

With the hearing set to start next week, Borson is confident that a final verdict will be announced within a month to six weeks – before the start of the 2024-25 season.

Man City case against Premier League to be finalised “within a month”

There’s not much scope for this case to be dragged out,” Borson told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

If you look at the Premier League rules, it looks like there is no appeal possible for anything.

It specifically says within the Premier League rules that they can’t appeal on a point of law.

Given that this is a law-heavy case, that would be the most likely area that somebody would want to appeal but it is a closed door.

So I would expect this to be done in one hit – it will be heard over two weeks.

I would expect the decision to come out, probably within a month to six weeks.

So that takes us close to the start of the season, but to be perfectly honest I think this is largely relevant to the football.
