Man United fans are convinced Brighton defender Joel Veltman should have been punished for his ‘blatant’ handball in their game at the Amex on Saturday.
Veltman, 32, was on the turf with Bruno Fernandes attempting to get the ball off of him when he decided to scoop the ball away from the Portuguese midfielder with his hand.
Referee Craig Pawson decided against brandishing a card for the defender and instead awarded a free-kick in a good position, which Amad Diallo crossed well, and Casemiro headed just over.
A similar incident happened in Liverpool’s 2-0 opening game victory over Ipswich with Arne Slot feeling aggrieved after Ipswich winger Wes Burns was not sent off for a handball.
Brighton went on to earn an impressive 2-1 victory against the 20-time Premier League champions thanks to Danny Welbeck and a 95th-minute winner from Joao Pedro.
Joel Veltman a lucky boy against Man United
The Dutch defender has been a mainstay for Brighton since making the move from Ajax back in 2020, making 140 appearances, 112 of which were starts.
Man United fans took to social media to criticise the referee and question why the defender went unpunished.
In other news, Everton turn attention to agreeing Scott McTominay deal.
