Man United have held talks internally about the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports Germany.
A new centre-forward looks set to be a priority for the Red Devils at the turn of the year, given their struggle for goals so far this season.
A move to reunite Ruben Amorim with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres is also desired but may be too expensive midway through the campaign [Mirror].
Marmoush is one of those who is apparently being considered as an alternative as part of a four-man shortlist. Football Insider understands that Arsenal and Man City have also shown an interest in the 25-year-old.
Football Insider has also reported that the Egypt international could cost between £50million and £60million in January.
Victor Osimhen, Randal Kolo Muani and Victor Boniface are also named as other potential targets for the Red Devils come the turn of the year.
Man United should look to beat Arsenal and Man City to striker
Football Insider Opinion
Winning the race to sign Marmoush in January could well be important for those at Old Trafford come January.
Summer signing Joshua Zirkzee has endured a tough start to life in Manchester, while Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund have also struggled for goals this season.
Bringing in a more reliable goalscorer therefore seems essential, if Ruben Amorim is to enjoy his debut campaign with Man United.
There may be some concern about Marmoush’s lack of Premier League experience, given the struggles of their other recent centre-forward signings and the amount of money that has been wasted as a result.
His return of 11 goals in 11 Bundesliga games this season though is more prolific than what Hojlund or Zirkzee has ever produced.
Indeed, his stunning haul of 26 goal contributions in all competitions – 15 goals and 11 assists – is better even than countryman and the Premier League’s main man Mohamed Salah, who has 22 goal contributions.
That may provide more confidence in the 25-year-old, as will the level of interest he is attracting from elsewhere in the Premier League.
Indeed, that interest would make winning this transfer race a statement for Man United, so a deal for Marmoush could be worth investing in when the transfer market reopens.
