England and Manchester United legend David Beckham plans to pile more misery on Pep Guardiola by signing one of his biggest stars at Manchester City.

Guardiola and City have been a dominant combination in recent years with the Etihad club winning four successive Premier League titles and the Champions League.

A record-extending fifth looks beyond Man City, however, as a shocking run both domestically and in Europe has left them with a huge amount of work to do in both competitions.

Losing four league games in a row has left Guardiola’s side fourth in the Premier League, eight points adrift of Liverpool who also have a game in hand.

City’s dismal Premier League form has carried over into the Champions League where they have picked up just one point from their last three games to slip to 22nd out of 36 teams in the group phase.

During Manchester City’s malaise, they were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham.

Guardiola has understandably cut a forlorn figure in recent weeks – even sporting scratch marks on his face and head during a Champions League match – and will be desperate to avoid another poor result this weekend when City face local rivals Manchester United.

In another blow to Guardiola, who is widely considered one of the greatest managers in history, England legend and Inter Miami owner Beckham is considering a move for Kevin De Bruyne ahead of the January transfer window.

Having entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Etihad, De Bruyne is set to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season but several MLS clubs are interested in securing his signature six months early, according to talkSPORT.

Beckham is desperate to deliver a first MLS title to Inter Miami and is reportedly keen to sign De Bruyne to play alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

De Bruyne has been in and out of the Man City team this season but has been one of the best players in the Premier League over the past decade, winning the PFA Player of the Year award twice.

The Belgian playmaker has previously been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia but is believed to prefer a move to America if he does end up leaving Manchester.

New MLS franchise San Diego FC, who will make their debut in the competition from February, have also expressed interest in signing De Bruyne.

Discussing his future earlier in the year, De Bruyne said: ‘It’s hard to say now. We will be sitting around the table in the coming months.

‘I signed my contract at the right time. If there is a good offer and you tell Pep [Guardiola] that you want to leave, that is possible.

‘This may be different at other clubs. But I have never indicated that I want to leave.

‘I have more than enough money. But if an absurd amount comes, that is also for my family, my relatives, my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren and my friends.’
