Manchester United will not revive their transfer interest in Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong in the coming weeks.
The Premier League giants were heavily linked with the Dutch international in 2022 as part of a long running saga.
However, despite Barcelona’s desire to sell him to cut costs in Catalonia, de Jong maintained his stance over wanting to remain in Barcelona.
The situation has changed significantly in the last 12 months with de Jong’s injury record becoming a major concern for all parties.
The former Ajax star missed the final weeks of the 2023/24 season, and Euro 2024, with an ankle problem and his return date remains unknown.
As per the latest from The Metro, de Jong is not on United’s list of midfield targets, as they aim to replace Sofyan Amrabat at Old Trafford before the transfer window closes.
The latest on when de Jong can return for Barcelona indicates mid-September at the very earliest for the 27-year-old playmaker.
