Marcus Rashford: Man United insider suggests he's set for 'new role'

Marcus Rashford may have found his new role under Erik ten Hag at Man United after his performance against Brentford, according to the club’s former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at the club during their most successful period, exclusively told Football Insider that the manager needs to figure out which position can get the best out of the winger, with the new role providing results already.

Rashford, 26, picked up an assist for a fantastic cross from the right-hand side which Alejandro Garnacho slammed home to equalise before the hosts went on to secure a 2-1 win.

That position on the right wing represented a change of role for the United star, who is usually deployed on the left-hand side with the ability to cut inside.

It has been a problem position for United in recent years after seeing disappointing performances from the likes of Jadon Sancho and Antony who were signed to fill that role.

However, the tactical decision to move Rashford to the opposite wing to his usual role has been met with widespread praise following his performance at Old Trafford.

As reported by Football Insider, Brown previously raised questions about Ten Hag’s treatment of the winger as he revealed it had caused further issues behind the scenes.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in player recruitment and also worked as Sir Alex Ferguson’s number two for a period, insisted that getting the best out of Rashford is imperative to United’s results given his ability to change games.

“Marcus has got the ability,” he told Football Insider.

“If he’s right and he’s at it, and I see no reason why he shouldn’t be, he’s got the ability to do whatever he wants to do.

“It’s up to the manager to find a role that gets the best out of him and lets him show that ability.

“It’s lovely to see him back to playing something like his best.

“He’s a major talent and such an important part of this team. If the manager feels playing him on the right is what’s best, then that could be a long-term thing for him.

“There are times when he doesn’t do himself too many favours, he looks down and gives the impression that he’s not 100% with it.

“But when he is with it, there are very few who are better. He can run at people, his movement off the ball is clever and he scored goals.

“For the manager, that’s a player who you have to make sure you get the best out of.
